Today's
Olathe NewsHow can the nation enhance homeland security and fight global terrorism and, at the same time, improve current economic conditions/rising unemployment at the same time?
I do not subscribe to the current homeland security scenario, a separate department, a new bureaucracy, more freedoms lost, no way. The information was available that may have prevented a terrorist attack. The apparatus was there they just didn't communicate and coordinate. The management sucked, too much bureaucracy and kingdom building and not enough encouragement to employees to think outside the box.
Global terrorism is going to exist as long as people in some countries have no hope. There are numerous countries where disease is rampant, poverty is the norm, and education is non-existent. The folks in these countries have nothing to lose so why not blow something or someone up. We need to help these folks. The big question is how do we do it without acting arrogant and condescending. And, will the American people understand that it is in their best interest to help. (Note: In some instances military force may be required. Some will simply not get the message that terrorism is unacceptable unless you hit them up side the head with a 2X4 to get their attention.)
Much of the economic condition and rising unemployment is caused by fear. I believe that if the government would just admit it messed up people would understand. Everyone messes up. The American public has been told that we need new programs and departments because the old ones didn't work. A homeland security department and terrorism are unknowns. Most fear the unknown. I believe the fear could be eliminated if they just said we messed up and the mistake is corrected. Businesses would start investing in capital expenditures and employment would rise. I'm a firm believer in admitting mistakes as soon as you know you've made one. Take your hits and go on.
What would you do for Kansas, if re-elected, that's not currently being done and how will it benefit citizens?
My goal is to help elevate everyone in Kansas. I will vote loud.
What qualifies you to remain a member of the Senate and how do you differ from your opponent?
We have few political differences. I have published what I think on just about everything at my web site. Let the people decide. I am on the ballot because no one else was. No Republican or Democrat was challenging Senator Roberts. He was the only U.S. Senator in the country that was running unopposed. I considered it an insult to him and an embarrassment for the State of Kansas.
