The Coffey County Republican

Candidate Questions

Name: Tom Oyler

Party Affiliation: Republican

Office you are seeking? U.S. Senate

List your experience/education (max. 100 words):

I have not held a political office. I am in the running because no one else was. No Democrat, No Republican was challenging Senator Roberts. I considered it an insult to him and an embarrassment for the state.

I retired from Boeing in May 2000 after 26 years as an Industrial Engineer. Most of the time was spent in Budgets, Finance, Accounting, and Estimating for military manufacturing operations.

I have owned and operated a farm for 18 years, still going.

I have a 4 year degree from Wichita State University. The degree is Bachelor of General Studies.

List your top three concerns (max. 100 words):

Personal Freedoms - It seems like someone or some group loses a personal freedom every day in this country. When we lose these freedoms all is lost.

Education - It's not education it's indoctrination. The Federal Government has messed it up with mandates and no amount of money is going to fix it.

Foreign Affairs - There are many countries where poverty, illiteracy, and disease are prevalent. The people of these countries have no hope, no money, no education, no infrastructure = terrorists. We need to help without being arrogant and obtrusive.

What can voters expect from you, if elected (max. 150 words):

I do not believe anyone or group should get a special privilege. I don't believe anyone or any group should be discriminated against. The only thing this country owes anyone is a chance. My goal/job will be to see that nothing the government does will hinder you from getting that chance. I will treat everyone the way I want to be treated with respect and dignity. I expect those that disagree with me to let me know. I prefer to listen not talk.

I would like very much to see the government get smaller. Wise words were spoken centuries ago about how to govern, the least is the best.

Don't expect me to bring home the bacon from Washington. If you need something locally then try raising the funds locally. You can do it. Cut the Washington strings.
