A.B.A.T.E. OF KANSAS
1. What do you view as the most important issues the Legislature will deal with the next session and what do you propose to do about them? Please fell free to use another page to present your ideas.
The Federal legislature is going to have to deal with the crazies. Those that want to hurt the U.S. and its people. There are many countries that have no economic or educational structure. Disease is rampant, poverty is the norm, and the people of these countries have no hope. To alleviate this many are turning to violence.
The Kansas legislature is facing a tax task. Who should we slap with a punitive tax to pay for education and roads? They are unable and/or unwilling to cut spending. They have no concern for those who pay the bills. Milton Friedman eloquently explained it, the Iron Triangle. Politicians, Beneficiaries, and Bureaucrats benefit from the system but not the guy paying the bills.
2.A. Should the Federal Government be allowed to use our tax dollars to coerce the States into passing legislation on a state that they can’t enact themselves on a Federal level?
No. But, the State legislators can’t see that getting Federal monies has a lot of strings attached so they take the money and do not care about the consequences.
2.B. Would you be willing to co-sponsor a resolution to be sent to Washington opposing Federal, extortion mandates?
Yes.
3. Should elected officials be subject to term limitations? (Check all that apply)
I do not advocate term limits. It takes away my right to choose.
4. Please rank the following in order of their importance to you.
Personal Freedom. Without personal freedom all is lost.
Quality Education. Unfortunately we are losing this. Why? Today’s education system is about indoctrination not education.
Lowering the cost of government. A Libertarian candidate for Governor of Massachusetts says it best, "Small government is beautiful". Less cost and less intrusion.
Economic Development. This is being stifled. Last year the bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. handed down 4,132 rules. The legislature and the President only passed 108 laws.
Social Services. I am not an ogre. I believe in helping people when they are down. But, this stuff is way out of hand. At the rate they are slapping punitive taxes on people and extorting money from legitimate businesses I will end up in a hovel in few short years. There has to be a better way.
5. Please check those things that you think should be mandatory.
Motorcycle helmets (for Adults). No. I am not opposed to wearing them if you want.
Bicycle helmets (for children). No. I am always amazed at these things and wonder how we have survived as a species. Wear them if you want.
Seat Belts. No. Wear them if you want.
No smoking laws. No.
Gun licensing and registration. No.
None of the above. Yes. It is none of the government’s business.
6. We would appreciate your answers to the following, not because they have any bearing on your ability and qualifications to hold office, but for our information.
Do you now or have you ever owned or ridden a motorcycle? I never owned one but have ridden plenty.
For how long? Probably rode them off and on for about 5 years.
What kind of riding did you do? Dirt bike and recreational.
Have you had friends or family that have been seriously hurt or killed riding motorcycles and did it affect the way you think of motorcyclists? Yes, I have known people who were hurt or killed riding a motorcycle. It didn’t affect my thinking. I think many of the problems caused today are because people conclude that if they don’t do something then no one else should either. This is muddle headed thinking in my opinion.
