The official burning man page is at www.burningman.com. My first Flipside exceeded my expectations. The trees, flush toilets, showers, and swimming hole are seductive, and made me think about whether I wanted to go back to the desert at all. But, we are a desert tribe, and the desert is where we see visions and dream dreams.
I went with several first time burners, one of whom reported feeling an actual thrill of fear when one of the greeters flashed us, wondering, I suppose, what these people might be capable of.
We talked briefly to Danger Ranger, who is piloting the Silver Seed around the country, and of whom it is said that he threw a stick down in the desert in '91 and said, "on the other side of this line, there will be a different world", and so it has come to pass. An ability to work profound changes in the world has been on my mind in recent months. As in Zen, this ability probably is not achieved by setting out with a goal in mind.
