See the links and photos below. Contact me at the addresses to the left.

I live in a passive solar earth sheltered house that I designed and built in 1980. The house and 9 acres of restored prairie are used for educational tours.

I have written a book that details the construction of my house. Copies are available through Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, or other internet sites.

I followed a captive-reared great horned owl for over 12 years by radiotelemetry. Surprisingly, the imprinted owl survived and reproduced and still recognizes me. Amazing!!

I have written a book about my owl published by Princeton University Press. It is available in bookstores or through the internet. A home-made video or DVD about the book is also available by contacting me via email (maxt@tabor.edu).

I also do research in the ecological design of golf courses. Here I am at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas, site of the 2002 U. S. Women's Open and 2006 U. S. Senior Open.  You can access my web article on this course at the golf course ecology link above.   To see my NBC interview on the wildlife at Prairie Dunes, go to http://www.ksn.com/news/stories/13719961.html.   Below is an aerial view of Prairie Dunes--note amount of native vegetation.  I am also an avid golfer.

I am researching information on an ancestor, Hiram Terman, who enlisted with the 82nd Ohio in the American Civil War. I hope to write a novel about his experiences.  Click on the photo to go to 82nd Ohio web site.

I am an ecological consultant for Marion County Kansas and monitor water quality in the local reservoir.  Many streams are degraded in Kansas and need to have native vegetation reestablished on their watersheds. The biofilters associated with the simulated stream in the Tabor science center demonstrate that clear water and a balanced ecosystem can be restored.
