Sarah first appears in the records in 1818, when she is married to Amos Veatch Lashley. Sarah is a likely child of Wiley and Dorcas because she was married in the right area, because she is the right age to have been one of the girls listed in the 1810 Census in the household of Wiley Worley, and because of the apparent close relationship of Amos Lashley and Wiley Worley. They were listed next to each other in the 1820 Census for Whitley County and are frequently mentioned together in the Court Records. Thanks to the diligence of Curtis Lashley and the research of Gloria Peace-Griffitts, we have now traced this family to Madison/Iron County, Missouri. Any doubt that she might not be a daughter appears to be eliminated by the fact that they named two of their children Wiley and Dorcas! This family is shown in the 1850 Census for Madison County, Missouri. As many had suspected, this family left Kentucky for Illinois. However, they only stayed there a few years before moving on to Madison/Iron County, Missouri where they remained. Several members of this family fought in the Civil War on the side of the South. The obituary of Sarah Worley Lashley provides additional evidence that Wiley Worley was the son of John Joseph Worley. The obituary indicates that Sarah was born 1800 in South Carolina (which is where Joseph John Worley had moved prior to 1800). Also, they emigrated to Kentucky by way of Tennessee, which is consistent with the notion that Wiley had a brother Willis who remained in Tennessee. |
