Not much is known about Joseph John Worley. It appears that he was a musician in the Revolution from Halifax County, North Carolina. In 1788, Joseph John Worley purchased land in Anson County, North Carolina. In 1799, he sold the land and apparently moved to Chesterfield District, South Carolina where he appears on the Census from 1800 to 1820.

His status as a son of John Worley, 3rd appears to be established by an Indenture made in 1797 where he joins with Lovick and Robert Worley in selling land received by John Worley, 4th from the estate of John Worley, 3rd. His identity is further confirmed by the Indenture, where he is referred to as Joseph John Worley of Chesterfield, South Carolina.

His status as a grandson of John Worley, Jr. and Esther Blount is demonstrated by his brother's name Lovick. The only other Lovick Worley was the son of John Worley and Esther Blount. This name was apparently borrowed from John Lovick, Secretary of the Colony of North Carolina, who married Sarah Blount, sister of Esther Blount.

Many Worleys, including mine, have claimed Joseph John Worley as their possible ancestor. Our Wiley Worley appears to have as good a claim as any since there is an Indenture in Anson County, listing the name Wiley Worley. As far as is known, the family of Joseph John Worley is the only Worley family living in Anson County.
