The Burtons are an old name in Virginia. The Burtons married various Dibrells:

  • Magdalene Burton married Anthony Dibrell, Sr. after the death of his first wife. Her parents are not known.

  • Martha Burton married Charles Lee Dibrell. Her parents were John Burton and Sarah Gibson. She is a descendant of the Burtons of Henrico County, Virginia.

The Patteson family lived next to the Dibrell family in Buckingham, Virginia. There are still many Pattesons in that part of Virginia. Here are some of the inter-relationships:

  • David Patteson married Judith Dibrell.

  • Lucy Patteson married Charles Lee Dibrell after the death of his first wife and they had four children. The relationship of Lucy to David is not known at this time.

JONES

Although the name Jones is fairly common, it is possible that the same Jones family intermarried with the Dibrells, both in Virginia and Kentucky. The name also appears in connection with the Lees, since William Jones was appointed guardian of some of the younger brothers of Elizabeth Lee's father. The name was originally spelled Jounay.

WATSON

Not much is known about the Watson family. They were probably Scots. Wilmuth Watson married Anthony Dibrell, Jr. The name Wilmuth (or Wilmuth) has proven to be a popular name among Dibrell descendants.

GILBERT

The name Gilbert recurs throughout the Dibrell history, although not all the strands have been tied together:

  • Ezekiel Gilbert was appointed guardian of some of the younger brothers of Elizabeth Lee's father, ca 1744.
  • Ezekiel Gilbert (c1800-1873) m. 1826 Martha Rookings Dibrell.

MOSELEY

Some Dibrells married into the Moseley family, others served under the Moseleys (see War of 1812). A town in Buckingham County is called Moseley.
