Family Pictures - Four Generations of Dibrells

Generation 2. Charles Lee Dibrell (1757-1840)

To the left is a black and white photograph of an oil painting of Charles Lee Dibrell (1757-1840). Below is a color photograph of the same picture.

Generation 3. John Lee Dibrell (1777-1861)

This is the oldest known photograph of a Dibrell ancestor. The date of the picture is unknown. John Lee Dibrell lived to be over 80 years old.

Generations 4 and 5. Wilmuth Watson Dibrell (1808 - 1888) and daughter Martha Ellen Hayden (1838 - 1906)

This is a picture of Wilmuth Watson Dibrell and her daughter Martha Ellen Hayden.  The notation on the picture indicates that Wilmuth, the mother, is standing and that Martha, the daughter, is seated.  However, I suspect that the opposite is true because it was customary for the eldest to be seated and to be wearing more conservative clothing.

Wilmuth Watson Dibrell is the daughter of John Lee Dibrell. She married James Madison Hayden, who died at age 37 leaving her with 5 young children to raise. She never remarried.

Martha Ellen Hayden married William B. Morgan. At one time the Morgan family was an affluent family in Whitley County.
