Masons

Membership in the Masons has almost been a Dibrell family tradition. The early Dibrells were Masons, as were many of their descendants, including many present-day descendants. This brought the Dibrells in contact with many of the famous people of the time who were also Masons, including Lafayette and Andrew Jackson. George Washington was also a Mason, although there is no evidence that the Dibrells met him. The strength of the bond between Masons is illustrated by the fact that, when, Confederate partisans attacked the town of Lawrence, Kansas, Masons spared each other's lives when, by secret sign, they made it known that they were Masons.
