Observations:

As the use of middle names became more commonplace, the Dibrells took full advantage of this new custom to name their children after relatives. For example, Martha Burton Dibrell was named after her paternal grandmother, Martha Burton; Wilmuth Watson Dibrell was named after her paternal aunt Wilmuth Watson; Charles Cox Dibrell was named after his maternal grandfather Charles Cocke; Joseph Burton Dibrell was named after a brother of Martha Burton. Presumably Anthony Wayne Dibrell was not named after a relative, but was named after General "Mad" Anthony Wayne, under whom John's father Charles Lee Dibrell served during the Indian Wars.
