Clinton Cocke of Lee County, VA |
David Clinton Cocke appears in the 1787 and 1790 Russell County, Virginia Personal Property Tax List along with Charles Cocke and Jester Cocke. However, there is no apparent relationship, and they lived several miles from each other. David lived and owned a mill near Fort Blackmore, which was in Lee County in 1800, but is now part of Scott County, Virginia. David Clinton Cocke supposedly was born in the Yadkin River Valley of NC circa 1750. He was married to Jemimah Leach and they moved to what is now Scott County VA circa 1775. They were active in the Stone Creek Baptist Church and appear in the Church records. The entire family is not listed below. |
